We tasted this wine some months ago now and it has taken a while for us to get around to buying it (my error!).
However, as it has finally landed! It also happens to be on offer, so I do strongly advise you to not miss out.
Itata is a sub region of Bio-Bio in the far south of Chile, so cooler fresher than the north. This is an old, very old grape variety called Pais (Pedro Parra makes some world class examples), in fact some of the vines that make this wine are said to be over 150 years old! Not, jammy fruit driven Chilean Merlot here.
So for Pinot Noir drinkers this might be something new for you to try: it has a lovely red berried fruit inviting on the nose (now showing some development/age in a good way) and on the palate it is light fresh, raspberry and smoky undertones combined having been aged in concrete eggs and French oak barrels. Light in tannins but with a little grip… like a Pinot Noir but a bit edgy! 13% vol.
