Krohn, Douro, Tinto 2021

I recently tasted this on a glorious sunny day, surprisingly not in the Douro but in Manchester!

We have sold their ports for years now, they continue to make great aged Tawny Ports and Colheita’s single vintage Tawny ports. Here though is their first release of their non-fortified wines, and like other port growers/houses they realise that production of non-fortified wines is no longer a distraction from their main business of Port, but in fact is a great and important addition. It also helps engage the younger drinkers into a region they may have historically overlooked.

Ripe red berried fruits, fermented in stainless steel vats with a small portion aged in used French oak barrels provides an extra nuance/spice. Soft tannins and just lovely easy drinking red from the Douro valley at 13.5% vol., so doesn’t ‘blow the doors off’!
