Christmas News 2022
Well, you certainly can’t say 2022 has been a dull year!
However, the festive time is fast approaching and by the time you read this it might even be in full swing… so we do hope the end of year brings fun and frivolity. Of course, if you are in need of help regarding this, then especially at this time of year at Vin Neuf we have it in bucket loads (well, pallet loads to be more precise).
We are thrilled to be able to bring you numerous offers from various countries around the world. They cover different styles and price points and we genuinely believe we have something to offer everyone… from as little as £7.95 a bottle to whatever your seasonal budget.
You can visit us here online or pop into our Union Street where we will be on hand to help. Throughout December we’ll be open as normal, 7 days a week.
So, here’s some news particular to this month… first Chateau Maucoil:
Vin Neuf has always had a strong portfolio of wines from the Southern Rhone Valley and to just highlight one particular producer here; Chateau Maucoil of Chateauneuf du Pape are making some lovely wines at the moment; they also happen to own Domaine Le Decelle a Cotes du Rhone-Villages, from the villages of Valreas in the northern extremities of southern Rhone.
Chateau Maucoil Cotes du Rhone-Villages 2021 Rouge, has a wonderfully inviting nose and lovely fresh acidity and is made in a slightly lighter style and less extracted than some of its neighbours.
Their Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge has always been brilliant and vibrant and approachable even now, but for me the star and surprise is their white Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2020, which is spicy, exotic and indulgent. All their wines have been certified organic since 2014.
The estate’s old vines (the youngest are merely 40 years old; the oldest date back to 1895!) grow on the appellation’s four soil types: pebbles, clay-sandstone, Urgonian limestone and, more unusually, sand.
Unlike vineyards littered with the famous pebbles of the area, the fine, sandy soil doesn’t retain and transfer heat during the night, resulting in slower ripening and giving wines with more finesse.
For the lucky few we also happen to have a few magnums of their Privilege 2009 Vintage Chateauneuf du Pape.
Whilst Chateauneuf du Pape is the most recognised of the cru villages of southern rhone, do also look out for wines from other villages such as Lirac, Tavel, Plan de Dieu, Cairanne, Seguret, Sablet, Gigondas, Vacqueyras to name but a few, as they offer excellent alternatives.
It would be remiss of us not to mention Port at this time of year and we are thrilled to have Niepoort Ports back in stock. Their truly wonderful LBV 2018 comes in half bottles and 75cl bottles… or for the really adventurous we have Magnums!
Krohn Ports have been a staple for many years and I can recommend both their LBV as well as their 10 year old Tawny.
However, if you are looking for a branded Port house then we of course offer Tawny and LBV ports from Sandeman and vintage ports on request. We also have 10 year old ½ bottles from the oldest port house Kopke.
So, that’s it for now… wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and we very much look forward to seeing you all soon.
