October News
Well, the year has raced away once again and here at Vin Neuf HQ we are as ever gearing up to hopefully have a busy festive period. We are putting our final touches to the various Christmas offers, and the stocks are slowly arriving and most, if not all, will be live from the start of November. Do please take advantage of them as soon as possible!
We are specially excited about a shipment of Chateau Cissac, 2019 where we have a number of Magnums, Double Magnums and even some Jeroboams, as well as some older back vintages.
Next month also is our annual focus on the Spanish region of Rioja where we will be showcasing their amazing range of wines with lots on offer. We also have a SHERRY tasting in the middle of the month!
This month we have shown some cracking wines on our tasting nights and none more so than our dive into the northern Italian region of PEIDMONT, showing the diversity of wines it has to offer, that is beyond the most recognised town and wines of BAROLO.
We tasted some crunchy cool Dolcetto, basked in the delight of a Barbera and then showcased the king of grapes or the grape of Kings, Nebbiolo. From a delicate salmon pink rose from Tenute Sella, a traditional method sparkling wine with 60 months lees ageing, we then took a whistle stop tour of the lesser known DOCs and DOCGs of the region; Coste della Sesia, Carema, Lessona, Gattinara and finished off with a Barolo from the Brunate ‘cru’ vineyard, pictured herewith.
My personal favourite on the night, was the last bottle of 2018 Lessona by Noah. Whilst we also tasted some long well-established families of the Piedmont, Tenute Sella, Oddero, Francesco Rinadli et al, it was this young couples’ wines that shone for me.
It is the viticultural brainchild of Andrea Mosca and Giovanna Pepe Diaz who, in 2010, decided that a career change was necessary in order to follow their passion for wine.
They now have just over 3 hectares of vines in the smallest of the DOCGs in Piedmont, Lessona 2019 has just arrived.
We also happened to be very lucky enough to have had a great line up from the Travaglini estate in Gattinara, where we tasted all their current vintages from their Seleccion 2021, Tre Vigna 2019 and Riserva 2018.
Here the Tre Vigna took the prize for the wine of the night by the audience and perhaps rightly so. After being a little closed upon opening, by the time we got round to tasting it some 45 minutes later it was on song and showed the power, poise and elegance of what Nebbiolo can offer.
Also, the fact that it has been aged not just in the traditional Slovenian oak as their other wines, but 20% also sees French oak barrels for a few months, give that extra depth to the wine. It also happens to be on offer, so click here for more details.
Santé!
